You may have never ridden or only ridden once or twice. You can start\, stop\, and turn with confidence but are still developing body positioning\, throttle control\, and understanding terrain.\nAdvanced Beginner – You ride groomed and ungroomed terrain with growing confidence. You’re beginning to explore off-trail riding\, sidehilling basics\, climbing small features\, and navigating variable snow\, while still refining balance\, technique\, and recovery skills.\nIntermediate – You ride on- and off-trail regularly and can manage varied terrain\, deeper snow\, and moderate sidehills. Teens will learn how to stay safe in avalanche conditions and develop the fundamentals needed for smart backcountry decision-making. \nParticipants will:❄️ Learn to select safe routes through avalanche terrain❄️ Practice effective avalanche rescue techniques❄️ Develop control and confidence on steep\, technical slopes \nIn the technical riding portion\, you’ll work on throttle and brake control\, foot placement\, sled balance\, and reading terrain to maintain flow and control. DESCRIPTION:If you travel and ride on\, near or around mountains\, understanding the risks of avalanches\, proper travel protocols\, and rescue techniques is critical. \nCome enjoy a fun\, interactive session of avalanche awareness training and companion rescue practice with Alaska Safe Riders. This clinic made possible thanks to support from Team CC\, the Mat-Su Health Foundation\, and the Alaska Department of Public Safety\, and will help you learn about the avalanche rescue equipment needed and how to use it. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStudents practice avalanche rescue \nBring your gear including beacon\, probe\, shovel\, pack (if you have them) and your riding buddies to get avy savy with this workshop. If you don’t have equipment\, don’t worry\, we’ve got you covered with loaner gear. Students practice basic safety techniques with hands-on exercises covering starting and stopping\, turning (both gradual and quick)\, negotiating hills\, emergency stopping and swerving\, and riding over obstacles. Particular emphasis is placed on the safety implications relating to each lesson. \nLimit 8 students per class. DESCRIPTION:Alaska Safe Riders is proud to offer this ROV (recreation off-road vehicle) sometimes referred to as side-by-sides or UTVs riders workshop thanks to support from Conoco Phillips and Matanuska Electric Association.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRecreational Off-Highway Vehicles\, sometimes referred to as side-by-sides\, UTVs\, or ROVs\, handle differently than other vehicles\, such as ATVs\, motorcycles\, and cars. Learning how to drive your ROV is an important first step for you and your passengers. \nThe ROV Basic DriverCourse is a hands-on class\, for licensed drivers aged 16 and older\, conducted by a certified ROV DriverCoach. Our DriverCoaches will help you develop the basic skills to operate your ROV in an off-road environment and teach you driving strategies to make safe and responsible driving decisions. The ROV Basic DriverCourse offers students approximately three hours of driving time on a closed range and post-exercise discussions to expand on the driving skills and strategies you’ve learned. At select locations\, students will also be able to experience open trail exercises to practice the skills and knowledge they have learned in a real off-road environment. All students must provide their own machine for this course. \nThe Closed Range Exercises include: \n\nUnderstanding and identifying an ROV’s primary parts and controls\nStarting out and stopping smoothly\nLow speed steering\nTurning and backing up\nBraking\, both normal and quick stops\nSwerving\n\nBefore you enroll in this ROV Basic DriverCourse\, please note all students must be at least 16 years of age\, hold a valid driver’s license\, and have completed the ROHVA E-Course prior to their arrival.
