We’re ringing in the New Year with colder temps forecast throughout the south central region, but not much snow to speak of this week.
Eureka and Lake Louise are reporting thin, groomed trails with little base. The river from Willow to Skwentna is reported healed up, groomed and staked. Remember to use extra caution when traveling on or near any waterway.
Summit Lake reports good snow and trails, but considerable avalanche danger. Be alert if your travels are taking you in or near the mountains. Get current snow and avalanche conditions at Alaska_Snow-dot-org.
An unexpected night out in Alaska can be deadly if you don’t have protection against the harsh elements. Carry a backcountry emergency kit including food, water, shelter, signaling devices, a first aid kit, fire starter, extra clothing and repair items.
The team at Alaska Safe Riders have a host of training opportunities available to kick off the New Year. From basic rider safety courses, to intensive glacier travel, and backcountry safety workshops. Learn more and sign up today at alaskasaferiders.org
Tune in next week for more updates and tips!
