It’s time for the 17th annual Mat-Su Emergency Preparedness Expo set for Saturday, September 20th from 10 am to 3 pm at the Curtis D. Menard Sports Center in Wasilla. This event is totally free thanks to generous support from the Mat-Su Health Foundation, the Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services, AARP Alaska, American Red Cross, and many, many others. You’ll find demonstrations, training sessions, games and activities for all ages along with a host of hands-on training activities designed to help you and your family be prepared for all types of emergencies and disasters.
Whether you are heading into the mountains for adventure, or need to shelter in place at home due to a volcano, this annual event will help you get ready.
Alaska Safe Riders will provide a free Backcountry Safety seminar sponsored by the Alaska Department of Public Safety at the Expo from 12:30-1:30 pm in one of the center’s classrooms. You’ll get the chance to check out the latest tools available, experience interactive lessons that help you prepare, plus earn a chance to win some really great prizes that include items like helmets, goggles, headlamps and much more.
Don’t miss out on this opportunity. Bring your questions, your friends, family and interest to learn more. And don’t forget to enter the Poster Contest to show what being prepared means to you! This year’s contest is open to all ages! You could earn an emergency backpack, cash gift card, and a community service recognition award. Show us your talent!
