Weekly report 1.10.2024

00:00

Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly Backcountry Trail report thanks to support from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and this station.

Winter is in full swing, and El Nino continues to provide plenty of snow, wind and milder temperatures. It’s a great time to get out and enjoy the trails!

Avalanche conditions continue to be a concern in the Turnagain area so use caution and make sure to check the forecast prior to heading out. Watch for blowing snow and wind loaded slopes in the Seward, Lost Lake area. In Hatcher Pass conditions have improved, but as always, stay alert and get the latest observations for any area you plan to recreate at alaska_snow_dot_org.

With the warmer temperatures and fresh snow, trail conditions in the upper susitna region are reported in good condition and north toward Eureka you’ll also find good trail conditions and lots of snow.

Duct Tape is long considered to be the essential survival tool for Alaska. While your emergency kit should include a wide variety of items in case of an unexpected challenge, good old duct tape still tops our list of favorites. And for good reason.  It can be used for many things, including making field repairs to yourself or your machine. Learn our favorite duct tape tricks at Alaska_Safe_Riders_dot_org

That’s it for this week. Stay tuned for lots more training opportunities and safety tips ahead. Here’s to another weekend of safe riding!
