Weekly report 12.5.2024

00:00

Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly snow and trail report thanks to support from the Mat-Su Health Foundation and this station.

December has arrived, and there are plenty of great opportunities to ride! – Update (Warmer weather and icy conditions have caused trails to deteriorate across much of southcentral.)

Areas south of Nancy Lake Parkway are open, with good snow coverage, overnight temperatures below zero, and daytime temps staying in the single digits making for stable conditions.

Ski trails around Nancy Lake and Hatcher’s Pass have also been groomed. However, trails are still closed to snowmachiners in Hatcher Pass due to low snow coverage. Check updated snow conditions at Alaska-Snow-dot-org.

The Eureka area off the Glenn Highway is reporting thin, early season conditions. Keep to the meadows and trails for the best riding.

Be alert around all waterways.  The ice is getting thicker, but is still dangerously thin in places and demands caution.

The Eagle River Polaris and Arctic Cat is hosting an Avalanche Awareness Rescue Clinic on Wednesday, December 11, from 6:30-8:30pm. Learn more at Alaska_Safe_Riders-dot-o-r-g.

That’s all for this week, there is lots of snow in the forecast so tune in next week for more updates and tips!
