Weekly report 12.18.2024
Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly snow and trail report thanks to support from the Mat-Su Health Foundation and this station.
Colder temperatures and a fresh dump of snow are helping to improve riding conditions across the South Central region, with more cold and snow in the forecast.
Trails in the Eureka area off the Glenn Hwy are reported to be good, but with little base to speak of.
Caribou Hills on the Kenai is reporting an 8” base with solid, rideable trails.
Turnagain Pass and Summit Lake are still reporting considerable avalanche danger. Use caution if your travels are taking you in or near the mountains. Get current avalanche and snow conditions at Alaska_Snow-dot-org.
Solo travel is not advised, but sometimes it’s unavoidable. Carrying extra gear like ropes, pulleys, and a good shovel to set a mechanical advantage system can be essential.
The Alaska Safe Riders team will be hosting a free Backcountry Safety Workshop Saturday December 28th in Ninilchik from 1-4PM. Get the details at Alaska_Safe_Riders-dot-o-r-g.
That’s all for this week. Stay alert out there, and tune in next week for more updates and tips!
