Snowmachiners across Southcentral and the Mat-Su can expect temperatures in the twenties to low thirties this week, with light snowfall and increasing winds at higher elevations. Visibility may change quickly, and wind-loaded snow is possible in open and alpine terrain.
Snowmachine trails in the Mat-Su are seeing steady use, with variable conditions depending on grooming, elevation, and recent snowfall. Riders should expect firmer surfaces in some areas and changing conditions as they move into higher terrain.
Avalanche danger remains a key concern this week. Recent snow and wind have created unstable conditions in the backcountry, and hazards can increase quickly with elevation. If you’re riding in areas like Hatcher Pass, Turnagain Pass, or the Eastern Alaska Range, check avalanche advisories before you go, carry your beacon, probe, and shovel, and ride with a partner.
