Weekly report 2.20.2025
Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly snow and trail report thanks to support from Matanuska Electric Association and this station.
The unrelenting warm temperatures have trails at lower elevations in rough shape. Reports from Big Lake to Anchorage tell the same tale, little to no snow. Precipitation and continued mild temperatures are forecast for the weekend.
Elevation will once again be key to finding good snow. North on the Glenn to Eureka, Lake Louise and Summit Lake, or North on the Parks to Petersville, riders are still reporting good riding conditions.
Always stay alert if your travel takes you in or near the mountains. Carry the appropriate safety gear and know how to use it. Get current snow and avalanche conditions at Alaska_Snow-dot-org.
It’s Iron Dog time, and The Alaska Safe Riders are leading the charge! Our expert team is presenting safety courses at schools and communities along the trail. Cheer on your favorite team and get updates at Irondog.org.
A high percentage of accidents are a result of the rider going faster than they can see and react. At 40 mph your reaction time and braking distance together require a minimum of 400 feet to stop. Darkness, fog, brush or other factors demand riders slow down to avoid a crash and potential injury. Remember- Adjust your speed to your vision. Learn more at Alaska_Safe_Riders-dot-o-r-g.
Keep thinking SNOW! And tune in next week for more updates and tips!
