Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly Backcountry Trail report thanks to support from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and this station.
Warmer temperatures and a fresh dump of snow this week should bring a welcome relief to Alaskans across the state. Funny how 10 above feels balmy after days of sub zero temps.
Trails are reported wind blown and in pretty rough shape across the region but forecasted snow should provide a welcome reset. There is good riding on the back side of Hatcher Pass and Iron Dog racers are finding deep fluff and fast trail conditions the further out they ride.
If you plan to ride in the mountains, make sure you carry the proper safety gear, ride with a partner, and get the latest forecasts and observations for the area you plan to travel at Alaska_Snow_dot_org.
Alaska has many great winter trails to enjoy which are typically groomed by snowmobile or dog mushing clubs. Most trails are multi-use. Keep it safe by using proper trail precautions. If you are motorized, slow down in winding sections and watch for non-motorized users. Wear bright clothing and flashing lights for visibility.
