Alaska Safe Riders here bringing you all-purpose vehicle safety messages thanks to the MEA Charitable Foundation and this station.

Before you hit that throttle, take a minute to know your limits and match your ride to your skill level. Alaska trails can go from mellow to extreme in just a mile or two. Pick a route you can handle and build up slowly. Confidence comes from practice, not speed.

A great place for beginners is Eklutna Lake Trail just north of Anchorage. With its scenic 13‑mile stretch along the lake and moderate terrain, you can ease into ATV handling without the pressure of steep climbs. Watch for mud and water crossings, especially in spring.

Ride at your level and build up your skills safely. You’ll find online training courses along with a host of other training tips and opportunities at Alaska_Safe_Riders_dot_o.r.g.

Ride smart. Ride safe. Wear a helmet. And we’ll have more trail and safety tips for you right here next week.
