Weekly report 4.4.2024
Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly Backcountry Trail report thanks to support from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and this station.
Seems like this weather can’t decide what to do. Cooler temperatures and a fresh dump of snow have made for some pretty awesome riding and touring conditions to the north toward Eureka, Hatcher Pass, and Willow.
Ski resorts and areas around Turnagain and the Kenai are also serving up some great adventures. Thompson Pass north of Valdez on the Richardson Highway is reporting good riding conditions as well, so the season isn’t over yet!
Early morning rides still offer the most stable conditions as daytime temperatures are forecast to continue rising into the 30’s and 40’s this weekend.
New snow, wind and rising temperatures all contribute to increasing avalanche concerns. Make sure to check out the latest forecasts and observations for the area you plan to travel at alaskasnow_dot_org.
If you’re looking for races, the Valdez Mountain Man Hill Climb is set for April 18 through the 20th in Thompson Pass.
Looking for training? Sign up for a workshop, or request a free presentation for your school or group at Alaska_Safe_Riders_dot_org.
That’s it for this week. Enjoy the spring snow while it lasts and keep it safe out there!
