Weekly Report 12.04.2025
Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly snow and trail report — proudly supported by the Mat-Su Health Foundation.
Southcentral Alaska is seeing mixed weather this week — rain at lower elevations turning to snow overnight, with slick roads, icy trailheads, and soft early-season snowpack. In the mountains, strong winds and shifting temperatures have created unstable layers, so avalanche danger is rising on steep terrain. If you’re heading out, stick to lower-angle routes, expect thin coverage, hidden hazards, and variable visibility, and check the latest avalanche forecast from CNFAIC or AlaskaSnow.org before you ride. Backcountry travel is not recommended without full safety gear and training. This is a great weekend to keep it conservative, ride familiar areas, and watch the weather—conditions are changing fast. Stay safe out there, Alaska.
A reminder that our Alaska Safe Riders Members-Only Weekend kicks off in Eureka on December 5th, 6th, and 7th — and even if you can’t stay, day riders are absolutely welcome.
In collaboration with the Susitna River Coalition, we’ll be hosting a Backcountry and Ice Travel Safety Training at the Upper Susitna Community and Senior Center on December 9th. This event is free to the public, and with early ice still unsettled, we strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of this high-quality information.
And if you’re heading into mountain terrain, don’t miss the free Avalanche Awareness Rescue Clinic at Eagle River Polaris and Arctic Cat on December 10th. Find all the details at AlaskaSafeRiders-dot-org.
Ride safe, stay warm, and tune in next week for more updates and tips!
