Mike buck
Executive Director
Mike moved to Alaska in 1978 with a sense of adventure and a desire to explore the vast wilderness. Little did he know this decision would shape his life in ways he never imagined.
For two decades, he devoted much of his time educating and inspiring young minds as a teacher and wrestling coach at Valdez High School. He saw this time as a rewarding experience, witnessing the growth and development of countless students who passed through his classroom. Teaching became more than just a profession; it became a passion that fueled his desire to make a positive impact on the lives of others.
In 1979, he discovered his love for snowmachines, and since then, has been chasing the thrill of riding through Alaska’s remote regions. The adrenaline rush and the sense of freedom that comes with exploring the untouched wilderness on a snowmachine is an experience like no other.
Throughout his career, he’s had the opportunity to work for various esteemed organizations. “I gained many friends and valued experiences with Alyeska Pipeline, Haltness Equipment, Petro Star, AKOSH, and the Alaska Avalanche School. Each role allowed him to expand his knowledge and contribute to the growth and safety of Alaska’s industries.”
In addition to his professional endeavors, he was also the proud owner of a whitewater rafting company in Valdez. For two decades, he guided adventurers through the exhilarating rapids, providing them with unforgettable experiences and memories that will last a lifetime. Sharing the beauty and excitement of Alaska’s rivers with others has been a true joy and a testament to his love for this remarkable state.
“As I reflect on my journey, I am grateful for the opportunities that Alaska has presented me. It has been a place of constant discovery, where I have been able to pursue my passions, make a difference in the lives of others, and immerse myself in the awe-inspiring natural wonders that surround me. I look forward to continuing this incredible journey and embracing whatever new adventures lie ahead.”
