Weekly report 4.11.2024

00:00

Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly Backcountry Trail report.

Spring continues to make its appearance as more snow mixed with rain is in the forecast. Night time temperatures are expected to remain below freezing with daytime temps rising into the upper 30’s and low 40’s.

This will continue to make snowmobiling and touring possible throughout the south central region, especially north toward Denali on the Parks and north on the Glenn toward Lake Louise.

Riding and touring in Thompson Pass near Valdez is still reported to be good as they prepare for the 2024 Mountain Man Hill Climb set for April 18th through the 20th.

Summit Lake both on the Kenai and north of Paxton also report good conditions. Wherever you ride, keep alert for signs of open water and avalanche danger.

Expect the avalanche danger to rise to considerable as more snow, rain and wind contribute to instabilities. Get the latest forecast where you plan to travel at alaska_snow_dot_org.

As this season winds down, it’s time to look ahead to summer off-road adventures. The Alaska Safe Riders have many great events planned and will be holding our annual membership celebration on May 1st. We hope you’ll come join the fun. Check out alaskasaferiders_dot_org for all the details.

That’s it for this season. We hope it’s been a good one for you. Keep alert and tune in next November for more great tips and tricks thanks to support from the Matanuska-Susitna Borough and this station.
