Weekly report 1.23.2025
Alaska Safe Riders here with your weekly snow and trail report thanks to support from Matanuska Electric Association and this station.
Persistent warm temperatures continue to keep trails around Anchorage and the Valley sloppy and thin. Avalanche danger is considerable due to all the rain and heavy, wet snow.
But don’t fret! head north on the Glenn to Eureka, Lake Louise and Summit Lake, or north on the Parks to Petersville, and Cantwell where you’ll find more than four feet of snow and trails reported to offer good riding conditions. We’ve also received word that the trail to Puntilla has been pushed through and is now open.
The Hatcher Pass Snow Riders Club marked the trail from Fishhook to Summit Lake which opened last weekend. Coverage remains inconsistent due to high winds so stay on the marked trail and don’t highmark on your travels.
Always stay alert if your travel takes you in or near the mountains. Turnagain Pass, Summit Lake, and Lost Lake are all reporting HIGH Avalanche danger. Know before you go! Carry appropriate safety gear and know how to use it. Get current snow and avalanche conditions at Alaska_Snow-dot-org.
Join the Alaska Safe Riders for an Avalanche Awareness Rescue Clinic on January 25th at the Prince WIlliam Sound Science Center in Cordova. Learn more at Alaska_Safe_Riders-dot-o-r-g.
Tune in next week for more updates and tips!
