Summary
ATV trail safety message
Weekly report 5.05.2025
Alaska Safe Riders here bringing you all-purpose vehicle safety messages thanks to the MEA Charitable Foundation and this station.
While it is permitted to ride an ATV on many Alaskan roadways where the speed limit is under 45 miles per hour, many municipalities such as Palmer and Wasilla have NOT adopted this law. In these communities it is not legal to ride ATVs on city streets.
When riding a trail, it IS legal to cross a roadway at a 90-degree angle or utilize a bridge to avoid a trail hazard. Remember that all other traffic has the right of way. Know the local laws before you get on a road.
You’ll find lots of amazing trails and great riding north on the Glenn Highway toward Puritan Creek, Gunsight Mountain, and Eureka. The views are spectacular and the trails are generally in good condition and typically not crowded. Be aware, alert, and respectful of other riders.
Are you new to riding? Try taking a guided tour of Lake Louise State Recreation area. You’ll find vendors who offer all-inclusive riding. Just show up with your family and friends and get ready for fun off-road adventures.
Looking to get some ATV or ROV training this summer? Alaska Safe Riders will be offering ATV Institute classes in June across Interior and South-Central Alaska, including the Mat-Su. Get all the details at Alaska_Safe_Riders_dot_O.R.G.
